Sculptor Kurt Steger will engage the public in a water cleansing commemorative event on the afternoon of September 11th. Steger's "Burden Boat" will be placed in the flowing water scrims in the West end of the Robert and Arlene Kogod Courtyard from 11am to 4pm. The public is invited to place messages into the boat as part of the event. At 4pm the artist will pour water over the messages left in the boat so the burdens receive cleansing, healing and release. At a later time the softened messages will be pulped into a book of hopes and dreams for the present and future. Musician Michael Pestel will join the commemoration to bring attendees into a space of reverie, honoring the date of 10 years after the events of September 11, 2001.
